Joshi was a Maharashtrian girl born in Kalyan, which Falls in Thane District of Maharashtra. Her family background was very strong .father was the landlord of that time in Kalyan. She was married at the age of 9.Gopalrao Joshi was her husband. After her marriage, she was named as Anandi. Her husband Gopala Rao Joshi at that time was working as a postal clerk in Kalyan.

 Later they were transferred to Kolkata at that time Kolkata was called as Calcutta. Her husband supported her in education. When she turned 14 she had a baby. But the boy lasts only for 10 days. Then she felt the necessity of medical which was unavailable at that time. This point turned her to become one of the best physicians of that time.
